Who is running

Ten candidates qualified for Board of Equalization District 3, the elected tax board seat covering most of Los Angeles County. The seat administers parts of California's property and business tax system. Per the Los Angeles Sentinel and CalMatters.

Mike Gipson
Democratic
A sitting Assemblymember from the South Bay and a former Carson councilmember with a long record on labor and public-safety issues. Per the Los Angeles Sentinel, he has made the case that the board needs experienced fiscal oversight.
Yvonne Yiu
Democratic
A former Monterey Park mayor and city treasurer with a finance and banking background. Per CalMatters, she is among the better-known candidates in the District 3 field.
Rudy Bermudez
Democratic
A former Assemblymember and former Norwalk councilmember with a background in parole and public safety, running on his record in the Gateway Cities.
Baru Alejandro Sanchez
Democratic
A younger Democratic candidate running on tax fairness and on closing loopholes that favor large commercial property holders, an explicitly progressive pitch for the seat.

The full 10-candidate field also includes Democrats Samuel P. Sukaton and Zhijing Liu, No Party Preference candidate Marie Manvel, and Republicans Carlo Basail, Rey Portela and Stephan Hohil. The top two finishers on June 2 advance to the November 3, 2026 runoff.
